Programme
The 2025 Research Thinktank will focus on the work of some of our newly-established International Collaborative Project Groups:
-
The Serious Illness Care Programme
-
Engaging with Bereaved Relatives
-
International Benchmarking in End-of-Life Care
-
The iLIVE Project
Project Group leads will each deliver a five-minute pitch presentation followed by two 30-minute workshops in which participants can contribute to discussions aimed at driving forward the research and development aspects of each project. The boxes below outline the workshop contents.
Thinktank events are fully interactive, and we look forward to your involvement. Click the boxes below to view an outline of each workshop, or click here to download the full programme.
Serious Illness Care Programme
We will provide an overview of the Serious Illness Care Programme (SICP) and the aim of the SICP Project Group. In the first workshop we will provide an update on SICP and have information sharing on activities, while the second workshop will focus on the development of objectives for years one to three of the SICP Project Group.

Engaging with bereaved relatives: feedback into quality improvement
Bereaved relatives provide unique perspectives about the care given in the last days of life. We will discuss the use of tools, e.g. post-bereavement questionnaires, as well as exploring other methods of assessment. Our focus is improving care, with the second workshop having a particular lens towards the community setting.

In the first workshop, we will discuss the comparison between datasets that currently exist, including NACEL from the UK, the Swedish Registry, and findings from the iLIVE Project. The second workshop will look at developing an international project and potential work packages for an EU proposal in this field.

In the first workshop we will discuss the results of the iLIVE paper on symptoms and quality of life of patients in the last phase of life. The second workshop will focus on economic evaluations in end-of-life care settings, and more specifically on the cost-effectiveness of a tool to optimise medication management and of a programme to facilitate volunteer support at the end of life.
